VERBA DALAM BAHASA MELAYU MANADO (Verbs in Manado Malay)

Abstract


The research aims at describing verbs in Manado Malay. The data is obtained by the speaker, Bible Translation of Manado Malay, Manado Malay dictionary, and popular song in Manado Malay language. The data is collected by listening and noting technique. Analysis of data is done by structural analysis and qualitative approach. The result of the research shows the forms of verbs, they are 1) basic verbs (free and bound basic verbs), 2) derivational verbs (affixation, reduplication, combined verbs, compound verbs). The characteristic of Manado Malay is suffix akang becomes -kan and -i in Indonesian language. Besides that, suffix akang could become prefix me in Indonesian language with construction verbs + akang. Suffix akang could mean pakaikan with construction noun + akang. The characteristic of verb that undergoes combining process with repeated prefix (reduplication) + verb. The characteristic verb viewed by syntax behavior, verb always places predicate function, viewed by noun accompaning, it is divided into intransitive (need object) and transitive (no object) verbs. Based on semantic character, verbs are divided into active, passive, anti-active, anti-passive, reciprocal, reflective, performative, constatative, locative, possesive, completive, deciderative, and directive. Verbs undergo derivational (de-nominal, de-adjectival, and de-adverbial) and inflectional.
